Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK)
CURRENT SOAK STATUS:
INACTIVE: The CSO reporting season for 2016 has ended.
Overflow alerts will resume on May 1, 2017.
Effective Date/Time: October 30, 2016 / 5:54 p.m.
Wet weather overflows have ceased;
Waterways may still be impaired.
During wet weather, conditions can change on area rivers, streams and creeks, making them less suitable for many recreational activities.* In addition to the hazards of fast-moving water and debris washed from land, sewers can overflow where they connect to the ALCOSAN collection system. These overflows can be a source of bacteria that may be harmful if swallowed or exposed to an open wound. This Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK) alerts the public when overflows in the ALCOSAN collection system are impacting area waterways during ALCOSAN’s NPDES permit summer reporting period, May 1 to October 31.
