*NEW* EXTRA CREDIT ACTIVITY K-5     All Day
Explore different habitats of animals that live in our watershed and learn about different body coverings. Students will also participate in an activity to race a boat that is propelled by carbon dioxide. 
Extra Credit: Elementary Students

*NEW* EXTRA CREDIT ACTIVITY 6-12     All Day
Students will use an IPad application to investigate specific amounts of water inside a bottle to create the “perfect standing flip.” They will also use the scientific method in an activity to achieve neutral buoyancy with different materials including action figures of various sizes.
Extra Credit: Middle and High School Students

FISHING POND     All Day
How does litter enter a sewer pipe but end up in the river? “Fish” pollution out and win a prize for helping to clean our environment. Great activity for younger children.

FRANKIE’S GOLF COURSE     All Day
Experiment with slope to change the trajectory of a golf ball to get a hole in one. Stop by and take a swing at it!

FRANKIE’S KIDDIE COVE     All Day
A quiet area for families with children ages 5 and younger to relax, unwind and take a break from the crowds. Children can explore interactive stations such as reading soft books, and building and creating with connectors. Adults must remain with their child at all times.

FRANKIE’S KIDDIE COVE TOO     All Day
Families with children ages 5 and younger can explore interactive play zones, participate in a sensory activity and make a fish craft to take home. Adults must remain with their child at all times.

FUTURE PLUMBERS’ WATERWORKS     All Day
Kids 8 years of age and younger can explore the hydraulics of water pressure and flow in a plumbing water activity guaranteed to make a splash!

GET SOAK’ed     All Day
Were you informed when it stormed? Do you know why orange flags with the letters CSO are raised along the rivers? If you are a recreational river user, you will want to find out about ALCOSAN’s river advisory programs and register to receive alerts.

GREEN REVITALIZATION OF OUR WATERWAYS     All Day
Learn about ALCOSAN’s municipal grant program to help fund source control projects within the service area. Staff will be available to discuss source control technologies such as stream removal, sewer separation, inflow/infiltration and green stormwater infrastructure. Project updates and an interactive bioretention model will be displayed.

INTERCEPTOR MAINTENANCE     All Day
Check out the high pressure water and vacuum truck that is used to clean the sewer lines in the interceptor system. See how video equipment is used to locate obstructions in the line and walk through a simulated sewer pipe.

JENNINGS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER     All Day
Simulate the processing procedure done at Jennings after they catch a Massasauga rattlesnake and make a take-home rattlesnake.

PROTECTING REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS IN YOUR WATERSHED  
Presentations at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Have you ever wondered what slimy and scaly creatures reside in our watershed? What species live here now, and which ones used to? Where and when can these hidden creatures be found? The Awesome Spirit of Wildlife, Inc. (TASOW) presents “Reptiles and Amphibians of Our Watershed,” an interactive presentation that lets you meet some intriguing special guests up close. (30-40 minutes)

PUPS4CLEANWATER     All Day
Learn how your dog (and you) can make our rivers and streams cleaner and healthier. Sign the pledge to Pick Up Poop and get a great gift for your dog!

RECYCLING WASTEWATER BYPRODUCTS     All Day
Learn about the byproducts generated from the wastewater treatment process and how ALCOSAN recycles its biosolids (called ALCOSOIL) and ash. Visitors can obtain supplies to plant wildflowers at home (seeds and compost provided). Students in grades 5 and above can learn the benefits of adding organic matter to the soil in a 15-minute, hands-on activity that will be conducted every half hour.

REGIONALIZATION     All Day
Find out about our sewer infrastructure, the benefits of regionalization and if your community will be impacted. Learn how engineers determine the risk and criticality of constructing a sewer line and typical problems found in sewers.

RESOURCE CENTER     All Day
Stop by for an ALCOSAN 3 Rivers Proud backpack and the peruse the selection of material about sewer overflows, household hazardous waste, watershed information, children’s educational items and more.

US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, PITTSBURGH     All Day
The Pittsburgh District includes more than 328 miles of navigable waterways and 23 navigation locks and dams. Buoys that delineate restricted areas will be on display and USACE rangers and lock operators will be providing information about water and dam safety.

Local 433 represents 274 ALCOSAN employees in various trades. Stop by the booth to speak with union representatives, operate the simulated primary treatment tank or disassemble and reassemble a flight (mechanical maintenance).
